Analytic and Computational Methods for Complex Systems: Tropical School and Workshop on The Case of Polymer Conformations

When: 08:00 AM-05:00 PM -- Monday, May 11, 2015 TO Friday, May 15, 2015
Where: Research Center for Theoretical Physics, Central Visayan Institute Foundation Jagna, Bohol 6308, Philippines
Description:

Polymers are chain-like macromolecules ubiquitous in our environment: plastics, silk, rubber, cement, cellulose, proteins, and DNA, among others. A deep understanding of the shape, function, and properties of polymers, as well as manipulation of complex polymer systems remains a challenge that would require interdisciplinary effort. This school aims to introduce graduate students and researchers to certain aspects learned so far about polymers and presently unresolved problems. To encourage high-level interactions between speakers and participants, a research workshop will also be conducted and participants are encouraged to bring their laptops.

Workshop Site

The Research Center for Theoretical Physics (RCTP) is located in the small coastal town of Jagna in the southern part of the island province of Bohol. The island is known for its white beaches, diving sites, the Tarsier, and the Chocolate Hills, as well as its rich cultural and historical heritage. There are several direct daily flights from Manila to Tagbilaran, and ferries from Cebu to Tagbilaran. Manila and Cebu are international gateway cities. Jagna is a 63 km coastal drive from Tagbilaran.

Participation and Fees

Applications for participation should be addressed to J.B. Bornales of 91¾«Æ·ºÚÁϳԹÏ-IIT. Contributed papers are welcome but must be communicated to R. G. Bacabac (rgbacabac@g-mail.com) of USC by 20 March 2015 for review.

The Workshop fee of PhP 5,000 includes registration, materials, lunch and refresh-ments during coffee breaks for 5 days of scientific sessions. Partial financial support may be granted depending on available funds.

Accomodation

Participants who need help in reservation for accommodation should communicate with the organizers, at the latest by 30 March 2015. There are pension houses near the workshop site. Room rates per night range from PhP 1,000 to PhP 1,500. More upscale places (starting from PhP2,500) are around a half-hour drive away from the Workshop.

Cost: Workshop fee: PhP 5,000
