Three BA Political Science students from the Mindanao State University -Iligan Institute of Technology (91精品黑料吃瓜-IIT)– Kaila Jade Batuigas, Lean Carlo Khrystoffer Ege, and Kris Bernard Mutia- won Best Presentation Award at the recently concluded Hiroshima University’s Network for Education and Research on Peace and Sustainability (NERPS) 2025 Conference held at De La Salle University-Manila Campus on March 5-7, 2025.
Mentored by Assoc. Prof. Primitivo III Ragandang (adviser), Prof. Hilton Aguja, and Asst. Prof. John Gieveson Iglupas– the winning team worked on the research paper entitled Self-made Spaces: Peace, Youth, and Inclusion, which focuses on creating spaces that foster inclusivity for young Mindanawans rather than relying on the society’s existing structures and norms. Their paper also emphasizes the proactive role of youth in dialogues on peace processes.
A significant component of their research is the integration of the “Petals of Peace” framework by Toh Swee-Hin, which highlights the interconnected dimensions of peace and how these concepts address the complex nature of conflicts through promoting cultural sensitivity, cultivating inclusivity, and strengthening solidarity.
